Below is a list of the gear you will need to help ensure a safe and efficient bike tour. It is imperative that each participant have the gear listed under the essentials header. We want to make sure everyone who wants to bike tour can, and we are working on our end to make sure we have extra supplies. If you have gear that you can lend or are in need of gear, please contact blackfreedomoutfitters@gmail.com. Once you have registered. for the tour we will provide a spreadsheet to document what you have and what you need. We will do our best to provide you options for the gear you do not already have.
Cycling essentials
A bicycle and bicycle helmet
2 panniers or other bike bags (frame pack, handle bar bag, seat bag, etc)
Bike rack
1 Tire patch kit and 1 Set of tire levers
3 Spare tubes that match your tire size
Multi-tool or set of Allen keys
Hand pump or CO2 cartridges
2 Water bottle cages
2 One liter bicycle water bottles
3 Bungee cords of assorted size
1 Durable bicycle cable lock
Cycling gloves
Front and read bike lights
Cycling Extras: Tire for your Bike, Cycling computer, Rear-view mirror, etc…
CLOTHING AND FOOTWEAR
2 pairs of padded Cycling Shorts or bottoms you feel comfortable riding in
2-4 T-Shirts or tops (at least 3 should be synthetic/non cotton)
1 Long-sleeved synthetic shirt
1 lightweight Fleece jacket, either zip or pullover
1 Water proof jacket/poncho (essential) and waterproof pants (optional)
1 Pair of leggings (optional), think PJs at campsite
1 Pair of regular shorts (preferably synthetic ~ NOT heavy cotton cargo pants or jean shorts)
1 quick drying swimsuit
4 pairs of underwear, 2-3 Sports Bras* 4 pairs of socks (synthetic recommended)
1 Pair of shoes for cycling (running, all-terrain, tennis or cycling specific shoes with clips
1 Pair of flip flops or sandals (Teva, Chaco or similar brand) for off bike, around camp, and swimming
CAMPING GEAR
1 Sleeping Bag with stuff sack
1 Inflatable or closed cell foam Sleeping Pad (Thermarest is a brand name)
Shelter ( tent, hammock, bevy) if you have one – preferably under 5 pounds (sharing a tent is an option)
1 Tupperware/Rubbermaid/plastic bowl (6” to 8” ) w/ lid and cutlery (will serve as a plate and bowl)
1 Travel mug (ordinary plastic mug for hot or cold drinks)
1 Small LED headlamp
PERSONAL ITEMS
Personal toiletry items (toothbrush, toothpaste, soap, brush/comb, etc. – pack shampoos & conditioners in small travel size bottles )
Small bath, camp or quick dry towel
Sun block
Lip balm (with sun protection)
Insect repellent
Wallet/ID
Bandana
Sunglasses
Hat/cap for camp
Water bottles or hydration reservoirs (3 liters total capacity)
Hand sanitizer
Moon cycle items
Personal wipes
Spare eyeglasses or contact lenses
Medications
Cell phone (don’t rely on service)
Journal, pen and e-reader or reading material (optional)
Emergency cash
